What is Breathwork?
SOMA+IQ™ somatic breathwork is a deeply embodied experience that helps shift you out of your thinking mind and into the natural wisdom of your body. Through intentional breathing, you begin to move and release the energy stored within your body’s nervous system, the electrical network that connects your entire being. Over time, stress and unresolved experiences can disrupt this network, leaving us feeling disconnected, anxious, or overwhelmed. Somatic Breathwork gently supports the regulation of the nervous system by helping the body process and release what it’s been holding. As this release occurs, space is created for clarity, calm, and emotional balance to emerge, allowing your authentic self to come forward. Using the breath as a guide, this practice invites you to clear unconscious barriers and unprocessed emotions, reconnecting you with your body’s natural rhythm of healing and self-awareness.
Breathwork Purpose and Philosophy
Somatic breathwork rests on the belief that the body stores what the mind cannot process. Each unexpressed emotion and stress response lives within the nervous system until safely released. Breath serves as the bridge between body and mind, moving energy (emotion = energy in motion), to restore freedom and flow. This practice honors the body's natural wisdom and promotes safety and self-connection.
How Breathwork Regulates the Nervous System
The breath directly influences the autonomic nervous system, which governs stress and relaxation responses. Initially, faster breathing activates the sympathetic system (fight or flight stress response), bringing awareness to a stored charge. Then, during the repatterning/receiving rounds, the parasympathetic system (rest and restore) engages - lowering cortisol, reducing the heart rate, and promoting deep calm. This cycle retrains the body to feel safe in expression and to return naturally to a regulated state.
